Shopping for necessities should be limited to not more than 4 hours, says Voon

KUCHING, June 3: Purchases of food, medicines and other necessities during the Movement Control Order (MCO) should be limited to not more than four hours on certain days only.

This is the view of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan when he said the only effective way to fight Covid-19 is a total lockdown and for the people to stay at home.

“We have been fighting Covid-19 since early 2020 and the uncontrolled Covid-19 situation is due to the indecisiveness of the government.

“We cannot fight Covid-19 halfheartedly with one side thinking of measures on how to save the economy while another side thinks of how to save lives,” he said in a statement today.

While implementing a total lockdown, Voon said the Sarawak government ought to utilise its funds to assist the jobless, the poor, lower income groups, small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) and for the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines directly from the manufacturers.

Touching on the procurement of vaccines, he opined that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)-led State government, as the kingmaker, should not be “a lame duck” that requires a green light from the federal government.

He further said that army doctors should also be mobilised to help government doctors and nurses while the army should be used to transport Covid-19 patients to quarantine and treatment centres.

He also said that the public should not need to register for the Covid-19 vaccination and such a procedure ought to be dismissed.

“No one should need to register for the vaccination and wait for their turn to be vaccinated. The present procedure requiring registration for vaccination should be scrapped,” he added. — DayakDaily
