BINTULU, Sept 1: Shell has assured that the delivery of diesel oil to its petrol stations is continuous and that there will be no problem of running out of supply in Bintulu.
Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Bintulu Branch chief Al Redzamani Abdul Razak explained that diesel supply typically decreases starting in the third or fourth week of each month due to high demand in the first and second weeks.
He said this situation subsequently affects the supply at the end of each month due to the limited remaining quota.
He added that the lack of diesel oil delivery by the Shell depot on Sunday sometimes also affects the supply at Shell petrol stations on Monday.
“A contingency meeting was held on Wednesday between Bintulu’s KPDN and Shell station operators throughout Bintulu city to find a solution,” he said in a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today.
Al Redzamani pointed out that other factors contributing to the diesel shortage include the increasing number of megaprojects in the Tanjung Kidurong area, Similajau, and the Bintulu-Miri Coastal Road.
These projects include the development of the Pan Borneo Highway and commercial plantations, especially oil palm.
However, representatives from Shell have assured that they will help find a solution by increasing the continuous diesel delivery quota to meet the needs of the growing number of trailers and trucks, especially around industrial areas.
With that, he emphasised that KPDN Bintulu will continue to monitor all petrol stations, especially Shell, and is also determined to fight the diesel embezzlement syndicate even more vigorously.
