KUCHING, June 23: The ‘Sharing is Caring’ meal campaign which offers 300 free lunch packs including drinks daily for people in need through five Premier Food Republic outlets here has been extended until the last day of the current Movement Control Order (MCO) on June 28 with more sponsors coming on board.

Initiated by Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (Sheda) Kuching in collaboration with Premier Food Republic, the campaign which started on June 18 was initially to last for a week until tomorrow (June 24).

These 300 free lunch packs are available at Premier Food Republic outlets in RH Plaza BDC, RH Park 9th Mile, Tabuan Tranquility, Emart Batu Kawa and Kota Samarahan daily from 10am onwards on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Mom’s Laksa is the latest to join the cause in which two of its outlets at Astana and Kampung Gita will be distributing 200 lunch packs daily from June 25 to 28.

Sheda Kuching Branch chairman Dato Sim Kiang Chiok emphasised that this campaign was extended as many people in the community were affected by the MCO especially daily wage workers and those who have lost their jobs.

“Through casual chats during the meal distributions, we come to hear stories of people’s hardships and difficulties in this current MCO, especially day workers who relied on daily income while there are those who had recently lost their jobs.

“Even though the State government has rolled out numerous initiatives and assistance to help the people, there are still many who would welcome any form of help including cooked meals as shown in this campaign,” he said in a statement today.

Sim was with Minister for Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian to give away free lunch packs at Premier Food Republic’s Batu Kawa outlet this morning.

This extended campaign is sponsored by Sheda members Sinar Mekar Properties Sdn Bhd, Petra Jaya Properties, Hock Peng Realty Sdn Bhd, Oricon Sdn Bhd, Benta Mewah Sdn Bhd, Kenbest Sdn Bhd and generous anonymous donors. — DayakDaily
