KUCHING, March 6: The Sarawak Pay collaboration with UnionPay would not only open business transactions between Sarawak-Malaysia-China but also the world market, opined Sheda Kuching branch chairman Dato Sim Kiang Chiok.
Sim in a press statement today said UnionPay is the largest card payment organisation (debit and credit) in the world offering mobile and online payment with its the total value of transactions ahead of Visa and Mastercard.
“Sarawak Pay has shown its prestige as an internationally renowned e-payment system as it is able to collaborate with the world largest network in e-payment. This will help in the ease of doing businesses from Sarawak and Malaysia with China, as well as the world. We can now pay, receive money with the world easily, even on the island of Borneo,” he said.
He also congratulated Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for the masterful foresight and success in the collaboration.
According to Sim, Sarawak Pay is highly accepted and appreciated in Malaysia because it does not charge any processing fee to users and merchants.
He said it even gives cashback to users which is a very attractive feature that helps users and merchants to reduce cost.
The proposed increase to Sarawak Pay’s limit to Euro 1,000, he said, will further promote it as an international cashless payments application.
Sarawak Pay, a cashless mobile payment solution, was launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in 2017, as a solution implemented by the state government to empower its digital economy agenda.
