KUCHING, July 21: A total of 23 officers from regional offices, national parks, and ranger stations around Kuching are undergoing an intensive Crocodile Management and Control Training from July 15 to 17, 2025, aimed at enhancing technical competencies and preparedness in managing crocodile-related incidents.
According to Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), the training was organised by its Crocodile Management Section under the Enforcement and Wildlife Protection Division to further strengthen the capacity of its personnel in handling crocodile cases.
The theoretical training module covers an introduction to the Sarawak Crocodile Management Plan, a briefing on the use of the Sarawak Croc Watch App, explanation of relevant laws under the Wild Life Protection Ordinance 1998, theory and methodology of crocodile population surveys, and crocodile capture operation standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Meanwhile, the practical training component includes awareness and communication training on the 3M Crocodile Safety Awareness programme, techniques for trap installation and rope-tying, crocodile egg collection techniques, night crocodile survey techniques at Kuching Wetland National Park (KWNP), and crocodile handling training at Jong Crocodile Farm.
SFC explained that the training aims to equip its officers with the technical skills and readiness to carry out their responsibilities related to crocodile management in a coordinated and safe manner. — DayakDaily
