Several Sarawak divisions on flood alert as METMalaysia forecasts continuous rain until Feb 6

KUCHING, Feb 5: Several divisions in Sarawak are at risk of flooding following continuous rainfall forecasted by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) until tomorrow (Feb 6).

In an advisory issued by the Sarawak Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), the divisions identified as flood-prone include:

  • Kuching (Kuching, Bau, Lundu)
  • Serian (Serian, Siburan)
  • Samarahan (Samarahan, Asajaya, Simunjan)
  • Sri Aman
  • Betong (Betong, Saratok)
  • Sarikei (Julau, Meradong, Pakan, Sarikei)
  • Sibu (Sibu, Selangau, Kanowit)
  • Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Dalat, Daro, Matu, Mukah)
  • Bintulu (Bintulu, Tatau, Sebauh)

DID Sarawak has assured continued monitoring and timely updates on flood warnings should significant rainfall persist in coastal and riverine areas.

However, the department noted that actual flood occurrences may deviate from the forecasted timeline.

All disaster management agencies and residents, particularly those in flood-prone areas, are urged to stay vigilant and follow instructions from authorities.
