Tan Sri William Mawan

KUCHING, June 26: Residents of Pakan would greatly welcome the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)’s efforts to strengthen internet coverage throughout Sarawak.

Pakan assemblyman (DUN) Tan Sri William Mawan Ikon said out of the 185 telecommunication towers that would be built throughout the country, seven will be erected in Pakan constituency.

“We are excited with this development, and representing the people of Pakan, we would like to convey our appreciation to the MCMC for their initiative include Pakan as one of the areas for the National Fibersation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP2).

“We also welcome MCMC to Pakan, so that they can experience the location themselves, in order to optimise the telecommunication built,” said Mawan in a statement today.

Mawan pointed with the telecommunication tower built, it would help Pakan to shift towards the Digital Economy and Modern Agriculture sector, which require good communication and internet coverage.

Apart from that, he said, Pakan also had good road connectivity to connect the longhouses in the areas to the main road, and this would help expedite the process.

“All of that is expected to be completed and starting its operation on the third quarter of 2021, and Pakan Community Center are also open for discussion for the project implementation,” he added.

Mawan also noted that MCMC will be doing their surveillance in one of the longhouses in Pakan, in order to get a clearer view of the community.

He said the information collected will be used to develop the most suitable telecommunication development plan for the residents, to ensure that they can enjoy better quality of communication. –DayakDaily.
