Seven caught playing Mahjong during MCO

Three of the suspects caught by surprise at the police raid.

SIBU, Apr 1: Seven men have been arrested in Durin Bazaar for illegal gambling while the movement control order is still being enforced.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said that at about 3.40pm on March 31, a police team on Ops Dadu operation inspected a car workshop and found the seven suspects deeply engrossed in a game of Mahjong.

They were immediately put under arrest. The police had also seized two Mahjong sets, two wooden tables, six plastic chairs and RM505.


The case was being investigated under Section 7 (2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act and under Regulation 7 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 for not adhering to the MCO.—DayakDaily
