KUCHING, Nov 21: Serian is gearing up for its first-ever Christmas extravaganza at Borneo Empurau Farm and Resort in Tarat, set to run from Dec 24 to Jan 4, 2026.

The event promises a festive spectacle with 112 local vendors offering a variety of food, drinks, arts and crafts, and other local products, alongside lively cultural performances by local bands, singers, and a special group from West Kalimantan.

Organising chairperson Datuk Joseph Yong said the event will offer visitors, both local and foreign, an unforgettable experience of fun and cultural celebration.

The event is fully organised and financed by the Borneo Empurau Farm and Resort, with support and guidance from the Serian District Council (SDC).

SDC chairman Dato Peter Minos said the council is pleased to contribute to the event, noting it will boost tourism and visitor numbers in Serian.

“It is our policy to enhance tourism in Serian, either independently or in partnership with the private sector, such as Empurau Farm and Resort, and ongoing projects like Tecktonic and Sons at Serian Danu Lake,” he said.

He added that the council is currently preparing or improving eight key tourism projects across the district, including Rancang Pool, Bung Sadong Resort, Silabur Cave, Pancor Dayak Hot Spring, Pesang River, Riih Daso Lake, Mentu Tapu Geddes Gallery, and Tarat Mawang Rancang Waterfall.

“Once these projects are up and running in the next few years, Serian will become a premier tourism destination in Sarawak, combining nature-based attractions with community involvement,” he said.

Minos expressed pride in the collaborative effort behind the projects, which involved extensive planning with consultants, agencies, and stakeholders.

“It has been a lot of work, but it is worth every effort. I am proud to be part of these initiatives,” he added. — DayakDaily
