KUCHING, July 28: Serian’s unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) reading has now decreased to a moderate level at 85 as of 11am today.
Based on data from the API Management System (APIMS), the station in Serian has recorded a decreasing trend since 6pm on Monday (July 27).
The reading was at its highest at 153 from 2pm to 5pm before it started to dip into the moderate level at 99 at 1am today and has shown a steady decline since.
However, Serian still holds the top post for the highest API reading in Sarawak, followed by Kuching with 82, Samarahan with 80, and Sri Aman with 72. All readings are within the moderate level.
Meanwhile, the stations in Limbang, ILP Miri, Miri, Samalaju, Bintulu, Mukah, Kapit, Sibu, and Sarikei recorded good readings.
On Monday, the Natural Resources and Environment Board Sarawak (NREB) cautioned that Sarawak is likely to experience haze over the coming days if biomass burning intensifies beyond its borders, with 1,081 hotspots detected in Kalimantan as the prevailing Southwest Monsoon raises the risk of transboundary haze and deteriorating air quality.
It advised the public to take appropriate precautions during periods of hot and dry weather, including drinking sufficient water, reducing outdoor activities, and wearing N95 face masks when outdoors, particularly those in high-risk groups, as well as not to engage in open burning activities. — DayakDaily
