KUCHING, Dec 10: A total of 14 men and one woman were detained by the police for alleged involvement in drug activities during the two-day Ops Bersepadu One Stop Community in Serian district.
According to Serian district police chief DSP Aswandy Anis in a statement today, the operation was conducted on Dec 8 and 9 by his personnel.
“Police also confiscated 10 transparent plastic packets and four straw tubes, containing crystalised substances believed to be methamphetamine with an estimated weight of 7.26 grammes, and worth RM1,180 on the street.
“The arrested individuals, who are locals, aged between 19 to 34-years-old, were brought to IPD Serian Narcotics Crime Investigation Division for further action, and based on the preliminary urine tests conducted, all of them are found to be positive for meth or amp (amphetamine),” he added.
Aswandy noted, five of the men and the woman were charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while the rest were charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
All of the cases are being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ jail and nine strokes of the rotan.
“For the positive urine test offence, the case has been investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he added.
Aswandy hoped that the local community in Serian and the surrounding areas under IPD Serian’s jurisdiction, would continue to work together with the police in efforts to curb drug trafficking and abuse in the district.
“The public must be aware about the drug problem inside their community, where the number of cases involving drugs is on the rise nowadays, and it is hoped that the public will continue to provide any information on this matter to the authorities,” he added. — DayakDaily
