KUCHING, April 11: Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem has set up a task force to assist his constituents who are eligible for the Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) to ensure they will not be left out.

He said since many of the village chiefs could not assist their charges due to lack of internet coverage, he has gathered his task force to assist those eligible to check online.

“Serian parliamentary constituency covers a large area. So we divide it into several zones to make sure those eligible for the BPN will not be left out. At the same time, we also assist those who are not in the list to apply,” Riot told DayakDaily today.

According to Riot, about 80 per cent of his constituents earn less than RM2,000 per month, thus they will be automatically eligible to get RM1,600 of BPN.

“Most of them have received the BPN but there are many who haven’t. So we will continue to assist them through online,” he said.

On the Movement Control Order (MCO), Riot who was a former federal minister of Human Resources said he was happy with the level of compliance in his constituency.

“I have been on the ground and I can vouch that everybody is serious in observing MCO in Serian. The villages in Serian parliamentary constituency including my village at Kampung Pichin are literally dead the whole day since Day 1 of MCO,” he said.

On a related issue, Riot said, banks in Serian Town continue to be crowded with people withdrawing their money to buy food. —DayakDaily
