KUCHING, May 18: Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh proposes to the Sarawak government to give away vouchers of RM100 or more to each head of household with a rural address.
To Miro, city folk enjoy all kinds of conveniences and modern amenities and facilities such as extensive road networks, effective education, easy accessibility to healthcare, and good telecommunication and broadband.
“Those in the rural areas should also be entitled to the same conveniences. However, as these facilities and amenities are not available in the rural areas, it is suggested that to share Sarawak’s wealth, the government may provide cash vouchers of RM100 or more to each head of household whose address is registered in a rural area, such as villages and longhouses to ease their burden in purchasing daily necessities,” said Miro while debating on TYT’s speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) at the New DUN Complex there today.
At the same time, he also urged the ministry concerned to build more affordable housing for young couples.
He said many young people are of the opinion that house prices in Sarawak are unaffordable. Many wish to own a house but have to give up their dream due to financial inability.
Even though the Sarawak government is the only government in Malaysia that provides a subsidy of RM10,000 for those buying their first house, many young people still cannot afford to do so due to high monthly instalments.
“Therefore, we urge the responsible ministry to work with housing developers to increase the number of affordable houses to meet the needs of young people and young families,” said Miro. — DayakDaily
