MIRI, Oct 2: A 70-year-old elderly man was found dead in a ravine approximately 30 meters deep near the Grand Old Lady landmark here, yesterday evening.
According to TVS, a spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) Sarawak’s Operations Movement Centre (PGO) said that a team from the Miri Central Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Miri Sentral) was dispatched to the location after receiving an emergency call from the police at 5:06pm.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the fire department carried out the operation using rescue ropes and a basket stretcher to lift the victim from the steep slope. The operation, led by PBK II Abdul Rahman, successfully retrieved the body and handed it over to the police for further action,” the statement said.
The operation was also assisted by personnel from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), involving a total of 13 personnel.
The operation was fully concluded at 7:05pm after the situation was confirmed to be safe and under control. —DayakDaily
