KUCHING, July 15: Three men, including a senior citizen, were arrested by police for allegedly stealing and possessing car sports rims and a car door frame.
District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said police detained the first suspect, a 29-year-old despatch worker at his workplace in Sg Maong around 9.40 this morning.
Following the arrest, the first suspect then took police to where the items which were earlier reported missing by its respective owners were kept.
During the seizure, a 62-year-old man who is a buyer of used goods and a 32-year-old man were also detained to assist police investigations.
“Urine tests conducted on the three suspects showed negative results. The 29-year-old and 32-year-old men have no criminal records, while the 62-year-old has a record of six arrests involving five cases of property theft and one drug case.
“With the arrests, police have successfully solved two cases of property theft in 48 hours,” Awang Din revealed in a statement.
He also revealed that the 29-year-old suspect’s modus operandi was to target car workshops because the owners were usually busy with customers or carrying out repairs, and hence would not notice attempts to steal items from their premises.
According to Awang Din, the first victim who owns a workshop at Muara Tabuan Industrial Park reported the loss of a car door frame on July 13.
The second victim who owns a workshop at Tabuan Tranquility reported the loss of car sports rims worth RM3,000 on July 14.
The remand application against the suspects under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code will be made tomorrow (July 16).
“Police will further investigate to identify the involvement of all three suspects in this theft case,” Awang Din added. — DayakDaily
