Senior citizen killed in accident along Betong-Sarikei Road

SARIKEI, Sept 27: A 68-year-old man was killed after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a car at Kilometer 460, Betong-Sarikei Road, Pan Borneo Highway, on Friday (Sept 26).

According to TVS, Sarikei district police chief, Superintendent Aswandy Anis, said the accident occurred at around 9.20am while the victim was travelling from Betong towards Sarikei.

The accident is believed to have happened when the victim suddenly switched lanes from the left to the right at a U-turn area without giving any signal.

“The car driver behind him was unable to avoid the collision and struck the right side of the motorcycle,” he said in a statement.

As a result of the collision, the victim’s motorcycle was severely damaged on the right side, while the car sustained damage to its front left section.

A medical team from Sarikei Hospital, who arrived at the scene, confirmed that the victim died on-site at 9.50am. The car driver was unharmed.

The case is now being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
