Chai was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a maximum imprisonment of two years or a fine of up to RM5,000. Additionally, the law mandates supervision for up to three years following conviction.

In Chai’s case, the court ordered a two-year supervision period after his release from prison.

The charges stemmed from an incident on Feb 27, 2023, when Chai tested positive for methamphetamine during a routine check by the Padawan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division. The test took place around 5.10pm at the divisionā€™s office.

The prosecution was led by Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while Chai appeared in court without legal representation. ā€” DayakDaily
