KUCHING, Sept 21: Senator Abun Sui Anyit has proposed that an unutilise logging road in Belaga be turn into the Borneo Spine Road connecting Sarawak to Nusantara in Indonesia under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12).
Abun Sui, who is also Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy chairman, suggested that the road be connected to Long Nawang in Kalimantan through Bintulu-Sungai Asap-Bakun-Murum Linau-Long Busang-Long Unai, and the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Tapak Megah checkpoint in Ulu Baleh or Pos Lintas Batas Negara (PLBN) in Long Nawang before connecting directly to Nusantara.
He said this during the debate session on the 12th Malaysian Plan Midterm Review at the Dewan Negara in Kuala Lumpur today.
On Sept 19, Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the federal government has allocated RM331 million to upgrade and maintain logging roads in Sarawak’s rural areas.
Meanwhile, Abun Sui also suggested the upgrading of the 374km-logging road in Murum State constituency and in Hulu Rajang Parliamentary constituency.
According to him, the upgrading should include Tubau-Jelalong, Ulu Sungai Belaga, Long Urun, Metalun, Tegulang, Sungai Linau and Sungai Asap areas.
He added that the upgrade would benefit a total of 75 longhouses along the suggested areas, including connecting five schools and one clinic. — DayakDaily
