KUCHING, Aug 16: Senator Abun Sui Anyit has called on the Sarawak government to use the state’s RM40 billion reserves to improve road connectivity throughout Sarawak, particularly in remote interior areas like Belaga and Baram.

Abun, who is also the chairman of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Hulu Rajang branch, emphasized that road construction should not be limited to coastal and urban regions.

“People in interior areas like Belaga and Baram also yearn for paved roads to reach their longhouses,” he said in a press statement today.

He stressed that the RM40 billion reserve should be utilized for development rather than just being held as savings, noting that building comprehensive road networks is key to improving living standards and lifting Sarawakians out of poverty.

Abun specifically highlighted the need for road connections in areas like Jelalong, Balui, Long Murum, and Linau Belaga, urging the state government to prioritize these regions in its infrastructure plans. — DayakDaily
