KUCHING, Feb 23: Senator Rita Sarimah Patrick Insol urged the federal government to investigate a TikTok account known as ‘757’, alleging that it is spreading hatred against Sarawak and its leaders, particularly the Premier, and questions whether the content breaches communications laws.
Raising the matter during the debate on the motion of thanks for the Royal Address, she asked the Communications Ministry to determine whether the account’s postings amount to improper use of network facilities, and if so, what enforcement action would follow.
Rita described the content as provocative and harmful to public harmony, warning that unchecked narratives on social media could inflame regional tensions and undermine national unity.
“Digital platforms have extensive reach and influence, and content targeting a state government or its leadership could erode trust between the federal government and Sarawak if not addressed responsibly,” she said.
The issue was raised as part of her wider call for stronger safeguards against divisive rhetoric, with the senator stressing that laws must be enforced consistently to prevent online spaces from becoming channels for incitement or hostility. — DayakDaily
