Senadin rep hopes new Health Minister will help to upgrade Miri Hospital status to better serve Northern Sarawak

MIRI, Dec 14 : Minister for Transport Sarawak-cum-Senadin assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin has reiterated his hope that the newly minted Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad could assist in efforts to upgrade Miri Hospital to have regional status.

Dzulkefly Ahmad replaced Dr Zaliha Mustafa as the new health Minister in a reshuffle of Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Cabinet.

Lee when met today after the handover of 10 wheelchairs to Klinik Bandaraya Miri, said Miri Hospital deserves medical facilities as it not only caters for this division, but the whole Northern Region of Sarawak which covering Marudi, Limbang and Lawas.


The wheelchairs were donated by Sarawak United Peoples’ United Party (SUPP) Senadin branch committee members.

“I hope Dzulkefly can come to Sarawak and visit hospitals here including Miri Hospital …we have a deputy minister for health who is a Sarawakian (Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni) and showing him around,” he told the local media today.

Also present was Miri Divisional Health Officer Dr P Raviwharmman Packierisamy.

On another note, Lee disclosed that Klinik Bandaraya Miri would be operational starting January next year.

“Currently, medical equipment is coming in,” he said.

For context, Klinik Bandaraya Miri is a Type 2 clinic and xan accommodate 500 to 800 patients. — DayakDaily
