MIRI, Jan 3: Senadin Assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin called for work on the 200-meter wave breaker project at Jalan Batu 1 in Lutong to start as soon as possible.

The wave breaker project costing RM25 million approved under the Pakatan Harapan federal government was supposed to be tendered out in 2019 so that it could be completed in one-and-a-half years.

“It has been almost two years and the project has still not started yet, ” said Lee, who is also Sarawak Transport Minister.

He said that the wave breaker was crucial in ensuring the safety of the fishermen, especially during this monsoon season.

“During this period (monsoon season), big waves and high tide, debris by the waves have caused inconvenience to the fisherman at Kampung Batu 1, Kuala Baram,” Lee pointed out.

Furthermore, the heavy storm and strong winds had also caused damage to the boat sheds, he explained.

Following the heavy storm recently, Lee had instructed contractors to repair and help them clear off the debris this morning (Friday).—DayakDaily
