KUCHING, Sept 14: ‘Segulai Sejalai’, meaning ‘together in unity’ in the Iban language, has been chosen as the theme song for this year’s national Malaysia Day 2023 celebration.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report today, the song ‘Segulai Sejalai’ was composed by Iban singer Gabriel Fairuz Louis and will be performed by him, along with local artists Mal Imran and Valerie Thiam.
Fairuz noted that the national unity slogan was chosen by Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the 2023 Sarawak State Gawai Day celebration.
“We in Sarawak have long used the slogan ‘Segulai Sejalai’, which represents the spirit of unity and cooperation among the people of Sarawak regardless of race in fostering well-being,” he said.
The Iban singer from Sarawak who entered the music industry in 2011 was selected by the Sarawak government to compose the song ‘Terukir Abadi’ sung by Bob Yusof in conjunction with the birthday celebration of Sarawak governor Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud in 2020.
Fairuz expressed his gratitude to the Sarawak government for giving him another opportunity to compose and sing the theme song for Malaysia Day 2023, ‘Segulai Sejalai’, alongside local artists Mal Imran and Valerie Thiam.
In the meantime, Fairuz also took the opportunity to wish all Malaysians ‘Happy Malaysia Day 2023’ and hoped that the people would continue to adhere to the concept of ‘Malaysia Madani, Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan’. — DayakDaily
