KUCHING, Nov 12: A 55-year-old male security guard was injured after he was attacked by a colleague wielding a wooden baton while on duty at the lobby guard post of a public hospital early Monday morning (Nov 10).
Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that the incident occurred at about 4am, when the victim was suddenly struck from behind by a man later identified as his co-worker.
“The victim suffered a head injury that required eight stitches and a broken right thumb. He received treatment at the hospital’s Emergency Unit,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 11).
Following a review of CCTV footage and witness accounts, police identified and arrested the 29-year-old suspect, who was also employed as a security guard at the same location.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the motive of the attack stemmed from personal dissatisfaction over a private debt between the two men.
Police arrested the suspect on the same day of the incident, and he has been remanded until Nov 15 to assist in investigations for causing injury using a weapon or dangerous object.
Alexson also urged the public to resolve any disputes peacefully and avoid taking matters into their own hands, warning that such actions could lead to serious harm or criminal consequences. — DayakDaily
