Security guard claims trial in land scam case

SIBU, Feb 4: A security guard has been released on a total bail of RM18,000 in 12 sureties by the Magistrate’s Court today for his involvement in a land scam.

The accused, Undi Gerimang, 54, of Song pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Syukri Mohktar, in temporarily releasing the accused, ordered that he be released on a bail of RM1,500 in one surety for each of the 12 charges.


According to the brief facts of the case, the complainant of the case was on Aug 26 last year at a longhouse in Nanga Selidung, Kapit, approached by two men who identified themselves as contractors attached to Telekom for the installation of a telecommunication tower and internet line.

The complainant agreed for the installation of the internet line.

The next day he was brought by the two men to Sibu to meet the manager of the so-called telecommunication company.

At a coffee shop in Rejang Park, the manager told him to hand over his ATM card and PIN number for the purpose of paying rental for a piece of land to install a telecommunication tower.

When he arrived in Kapit the next day, the complainant saw a total of RM70,000 was fleeced from his account and lodged a police report.

This led to the arrest of the accused and the other two suspects.

The case has been fixed for March 9 for case management. — DayakDaily
