SRI AMAN, Oct 1: Work on Package B2A of the Second Trunk Road project involving the upgrading of major existing roads in Simanggang Town here into dual carriageways, is expected to commence from Oct 6, 2023 until April 5, 2026.
The 30-month project worth RM60,905,550 has been awarded to Golden Throne Construction Sdn Bhd as the contractor.
Meanwhile, KTA (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd acts as the consultant with Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) as the implementing agency.
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was present to officiate at the project’s ground-breaking ceremony here today.
For the record, the Second Trunk Road is a mega project funded by the Sarawak government which aims to reduce travel time and distance between southern to central Sarawak by connecting the Coastal Road Network with the Pan Borneo Highway.
The project estimated to cost RM5.58 billion will start from Kota Samarahan and pass through major towns such as Simunjan and Sebuyau. From Sebuyau, it will branch into two paths: one leading to Roban where it will link to the Pan Borneo Highway while the other leads to Lingga, Sri Aman and Betong before it links to the Pan Borneo Highway.
Once completed, the new expressway will reduce the travelling distance between Kuching and Sibu to only 225km, compared to 312km via the Coastal Road Network and 400km via the Pan Borneo Highway. — DayakDaily
