BETONG, May 7: The RM292 million Second Trunk Road project linking the Batang Lupar 2 Bridge to Betong junction has achieved 76.68 per cent completion and remains on track for full completion by December this year.
According to a TVS news report yesterday (May 6), Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said works under Package B are progressing steadily despite earlier delays.
“The project under Package B involves the construction of a 27.84-kilometre route, which is among the key components of the road network in this area.
“I was informed that the current progress of this project has reached 76.68 per cent, and we are targeting full completion by December this year,” he told reporters after visiting the construction site of Package B4 of the Second Trunk Road at Jalan Lidong.
He added that the project could potentially be completed ahead of schedule if implementation efforts are intensified, in line with the expected completion of the Batang Lupar 2 Bridge in August.
“In this regard, the main contractor, Verde FM Sdn Bhd, has been urged to improve implementation efficiency so that both projects can be completed within the same timeframe,” he said.
Meanwhile, Betong MP Datuk Dr Richard Rapu expressed hope that part of the road could be opened to motorists earlier once the bridge is completed.
He said the early opening of the route would improve connectivity to Betong ahead of the National Day celebrations. — DayakDaily
