Second fire incident at Sarawak General Hospital as air conditioner catches fire in urology dept, unrelated to earlier smoke emission

KUCHING, Oct 1: An air conditioning unit at the urology department of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) caught fire this evening, marking the second fire-related incident at the hospital today.

According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak, the source of the fire is believed to be unrelated to an earlier smoke emission incident at the physiotherapy unit, which took place earlier the same day.

The incident occurred at approximately 5.04pm, and the fire and rescue team arrived on the scene within three minutes at 5.07pm.

The fire was found to have been successfully extinguished by the hospital’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) using a fire extinguisher before the arrival of the fire brigade.

Upon arrival, the fire department conducted a thorough inspection and follow-up monitoring to ensure no further risks were present.

The incident was declared under control at 5.10pm, and operations concluded at 5.11pm.
