Search operation launched for missing 88yo Kg Taie man

SERIAN, June 19: A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched for an 88-year-old man from Kampung Taie after he failed to return home since Monday (June 17).

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak responded to the emergency at 8.09am today and swiftly deployed a team of firefighters from the Serian station, including its K9 Unit, to the scene.

The elderly man, identified as Asui Langgang, left his home in Kampung Taie at Jalan Baki-Riih on Monday at 9am using a motorcycle to gather vegetables in the forest.

When he did not return the same day, family members and villagers initiated a search and found his motorcycle in the Achul area but could not locate him.

On the first day of the SAR operation today, the search teams comprising personnel from Bomba, police, Civil Defence Force (APM), and dPeople’s Voluntary Corps (Rela), as well as villagers covered a two-kilometre radius search area from where his motorcycle was found.

The search was divided into three sectors, with one team assisted by tracer dog Bailey to search the oil palm plantation areas and nearby small rivers.

As of press time, the missing man has yet to be located. — DayakDaily
