SIBU, Dec 16: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for Kumar Dinesh, a 21-year-old Indian national believed to have fallen overboard from a sand dredger, near Jalan Stabau, has entered its fifth day without any breakthrough.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Kumar was last seen wearing a red long-sleeved shirt and black sports pants before reportedly falling into Sungai Rajang from the dredger ‘Winbuild 6’ between 8.30am and 9.00am on Dec 12.

His disappearance was first noticed by his colleague who found him missing after he went to store items in the storeroom. Initial searches by the crew failed to locate him.

Bomba received the distress call at 3.10pm on the same day and deployed a team from the Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to the site.

Since then, SAR efforts have included surface searches covering a 37-kilometer radius across Sungai Batang Rajang, Sungai Igan, Salim, and Tanjung Salalo. The operation has been supported by Marine Police, the Civil Defence Force (APM), and the Bomba K9 unit, with search dog Bella joining the efforts.

Despite the extensive search, no signs of the victim have been found.

The operation is set to continue today at 8am as teams expand their search area in hopes of locating Kumar. – DayakDaily
