Search for 45yo man who fell from express boat in Paloh River suspended after five days

MUKAH, April 3: The search operation for a 45-year-old man who fell from an express boat along Paloh River has been called off after five days, pending new discoveries or leads.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Tanjung Manis stated that the decision was made yesterday (April 2) following discussions among all involved agencies, including the victim’s family.

On the fifth day of the operation, firefighters scoured a nine-kilometre radius from the incident site, focusing on areas where the victim was last seen.

By 2.18pm, the search joined by the police, Sarawak Coast Guard, Civil Defence Force, and villagers from Kampung Paloh and Kedang was expanded to 11 kilometres downstream towards Kedang River and Baun River.

Despite extensive efforts, no traces of the victim, identified as Awang Indera Awang Mahmud, were found.

His family was updated on the status of the search at 5.10pm during a meeting at the Kampung Paloh jetty, where the command post had been set up. — DayakDaily
