KUCHING, June 24: Sarawak is ready to be the co-host of the South East Asian (SEA) Games in 2027 and has discussed sponsorship from the private sector with Federal Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, says Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Abdul Karim, who is the Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, confirmed he had discussed the matter with Yeoh, but no official announcement has been made yet.
“But we will be the co-host. I even had a direct meeting with the private sector with Yeoh in Kuala Lumpur about the sponsorship from the private sector.”
Abdul Karim also revealed that they had discussed what sports to hold in Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
“We are lucky that they (federal) allowed us to choose what sports to hold in Sarawak,” he told reporters when met before the ‘Dancing Queen Concert—A Tribute to ABBA and Queen’, at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night.
Abdul Karim said he also listed down 18 out of the 36 sports to be held in sarawak.
“So more or less it is confirmed. It is just that the next SEA Games is in Thailand. So, probably after that. The next SEA Games is in 2025. That is next year. After that, they will be announcing the final details,” he said. — DayakDaily
