SDMC: Tengah Hulu Gedong Cluster emerges in Simunjan due to Hari Raya visiting

KUCHING, May 28: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today announced a new cluster in Simunjan district, dubbed the Tengah Hulu Gedong Cluster.

According to SDMC in a press statement today, Tengah Hulu Gedong Cluster is a community cluster detected in Kampung Tengah Hulu Gedong, which spread during Hari Raya visiting.

“The index case, involving a 34-year-old local man who worked as a postman, tested positive for the virus following a screening test conducted involving symptomatic individuals in Simunjan Hospital on May 18, and the results came back positive on May 19.


“The case started showing the symptoms on May 16, and may have got the infection from the community,” it said.

SDMC noted an additional 19 cases were also found positive for Covid-19, following a screening test conducted on the index case’s family members and closed contact in three localities in Simunjan.

“A total of 154 individuals were initially screened, where 20 of them were found positive for Covid-19, including the index case, and 62 others were negative, while 72 cases were still waiting for their laboratory test results,” the statement added. — DayakDaily
