KUCHING, Dec 8: Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) issues stern warning against employers engaging illegal foreign workers.
The stern warning was issued following a meeting chaired by SDMC acting chairman Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing who is also Deputy Chief Minister.
Masing said during the meeting today, he and SDMC committee members were briefed by relevant enforcement agencies regarding plantation owners employing illegal foreign workers (PATI).
“SDMC will not compromise with any employers who employ illegal foreign workers, especially those coming with high-risk carrying and spreading the COVID-19 virus.
“It was discovered that the positive cases in Serian and Kuching Districts in the last couple of days have come from these illegal foreign workers,” said Masing.
Masing pointed out that as of now, four positive cases have been traced and their employers had been identified.
The relevant government agencies have been directed to take stern action against these employers.
“SDMC is adamant and serious in controlling the spread of Covid-19 virus and warns that the committee will not hesitate to take stern action against any employers who employ illegal foreign workers.
“And this does not only apply to plantation owners, but also to all other sectors,” Masing cautioned. — DayakDaily
