KUCHING, July 8: School leavers whose applications to enter matriculation or public university foundation programmes have been rejected are welcome to enrol at the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS).
In a Facebook statement today, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said that he wants them (school leavers) to take such an opportunity to further their studies locally as their appeal process could take some time and with no certainty of acceptance.
“It should also further ease their financial burden as it is free, and UTS is a Sarawak-owned university which is right at their doorstep,” said Dr Annuar, who is also the chairman of UTS.
Dr Annuar stated that the cost of living in Sibu is cheap, and they could further their studies and pursue a degree at the same university after they complete their foundation programme.
“Previously, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the State government would provide free education to 25,000 prospective students in Sarawak-owned universities and higher learning institutions commencing from 2026.
“Those seeking a place at UTS could email me at n55nangka@gmail.com,” he said. — DayakDaily
