School holidays have been shortened

KUCHING, June 23: The mid-term and year-end school holidays have been shortened.

The Ministry of Education (MOE), in a media release today, said that the 2020 School Academic Calendar has been amended to facilitate schools in making planning for teaching and students’ learning.

The mid-term school break for Semester Two will be from Aug 20 to 24 for schools in Category A involving Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu and Category B (Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sarawak, Selangor as well as the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya).


The year-end school break will be from Dec 18 to 31 for schools in Category A and Dec 19 to 31 for schools in Category B (including Sarawak).

The mid-term break is shortened from nine days to five days for all schools.

The year-end school break for schools in Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu have been shortened from 42 days to 14 days, while schools in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sarawak, Selangor as well as the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya will have 13-days holiday.

MOE added that the total number of days being physically in school is 168 for all schools.

Meanwhile, the total number of days Form Five and Six students spent on home-based learning throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO), Conditional MCO and Recovery MCO was at least 55 days.

As for other school students, MOE said the total number of days spent learning from home will depend on when they will return to school, which date has yet to be announced.
