KUCHING, Jan 17: New school bags and supplies brought smiles to 105 primary school students in Kampung Segedup today, aimed at motivating learning and easing families’ financial burden.
Deputy Minister of Utilities (Sarawak Energy Berhad and PETROS) Dato Ibrahim Baki said the Back to School Programme is an initiative that began in 2014 and has been carried out consistently every year.
“It is held every year to provide assistance to children from Year One to Year Six, with the intention of helping them, giving them encouragement and motivation to attend school, enjoy going to school, and be diligent in their studies.”
“At the same time, the programme helps their families by providing support and easing their financial burden,” he told reporters after the distribution of essential school supplies to students in Satok constituency programme held at the compound of Masjid Darul Aqsa in Kampung Segedup.
The programme was organised by the Satok Community Sports Club (KSK) together with the Satok State Assemblyman’s Service Centre.
Ibrahim said the initiative had shown positive results, with some children excelling in school and showing the potential to become successful, and disciplined individuals.
“Therefore, the involvement of parents is also needed to give encouragement and motivation to their children,” he said.
According to him, the programme covers six areas, involving schools such as SK Merpati Jepang, SK Rakyat, SK Combined and SK Chung Hua No. 4, as well as Kampung Segedup and Kampung Sungai Maong.
“We continuously monitor it because education is extremely important. In line with the State government’s education policy, we aim to develop our children into capable individuals who can contribute to our State.
“As we know, to be competitive, we need children who excel in various sectors, especially in engineering, science, and technology,” he said.
Also present at the programme were Segedup Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Branch Chief and councillor Samsudin Saperi, KSK Satok chairman Su Pol Irwan Zulkarnain Hasbie, community members, and students. — DayakDaily
