KUCHING, May 5: Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Michael Tiang, has advised school authorities to cancel some of their activities conducted outside of the classroom given the current hot weather.

ā€œI would also suggest for them (students) to stay indoors and drink as much water as possible,ā€ he said.

Tiang told this to reporters when met after officiating the Adoption of the Kuching Autistic Association (KAA) Sunshine Hub Garden Farm Project by Sarawak Energy and cheque presentation at the KAA Educational Centre here today.

When asked for his comments on the recent Ministry of Education’s (MoE) special permission to allow students, teachers, and implementing groups in all educational institutions under the ministry to wear appropriate sports attire instead of their usual uniforms during the current hot spell to avoid health problems, Tiang said it is a practical decision made by the government.

He also urged teachers and parents to keep an eye out on students’ conditions and to monitor if they’re being affected by the heatwave.

ā€œIt is a wise decision to wear sports attire rather than the school uniform because some of them have to wear neckties, which is not practical,ā€ he added. ā€” DayakDaily
