KUCHING, Jan 31: The Sarawak Young Designers (SayD’SignersSarawak) have completed the first module of an Italian furniture course held from Jan 10 to Jan 21 in collaboration with international post-graduate school in Design, POLI.design.

The educational training course transpired following a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) and POLI.design last year but it could only take place this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The programme was implemented by Saradec Management Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary wholly owned by STIDC, which runs the SayD’SignersSarawak Programme since its incorporation in January 2022.

The first of the three-module training programme for 16 SayD’SignersSarawak participants was conducted via online classes by experienced professors from POLI.design. It aimed to widen their exposure and add value to their their design skills and knowledge.

Saradec chief executive officer Dayang Nena Abang Bruce said the programme has given yet another platform for SayD’SignersSarawak to tap into new opportunities and new knowledge in learning and enhancing their capability in design.

“We expect the SayD’SignersSarawak will be able to produce creative designs with the Milan approach, and market the products in Milan with the assistance of POLI.design, Milan,” she said in a statement today.

Among the course trainers were Professor Elisa Astori and Professor Luca Fois of Politecnico of Milano and Italian designer Vincenzo Vinci.
