KUCHING, May 31: Youths in Satok have the potential to become a model of competitive, inclusive, and proactive grassroots leadership, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
He noted that Satok, strategically located in the heart of Kuching city, is rich in ethnic diversity, culture, and history—making it an ideal breeding ground for strong community-based youth leadership.
“Thus, I believe the youth in Satok can become a model of competitive, inclusive, and proactive grassroots leadership.
“I strongly encourage more local youth clubs to foster cross-community collaboration, organise interactive and educational programmes, and serve as facilitators to channel the voices of youth to the authorities,” he said in a speech delivered by Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during the launch of the Satok Xtive Youth Carnival at the Satok Sports Complex here last night (May 30).
Fadillah, who is also the Petra Jaya assemblyman, further emphasised that regardless of their backgrounds—as students, small-scale entrepreneurs, athletes, artists, or community activists—Sarawakian youths embody the hopes and aspirations of the State.
“I believe that Sarawak’s youth are capable of leading a wave of change—with our own values, spirit, and identity.
“We want youth who are brave to speak up, brave to try, and brave to fail in order to succeed. Let us build a Sarawak led by a visionary, courageous, and big-hearted younger generation,” he added.
He also commended the carnival, organised by Kelab Belia Prihatin Bandar Kuching (KBPBK) with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED), as a grassroots platform aligned with the Sarawak Xtive movement—an initiative to develop active, responsible, and socially conscious citizens.
Among the featured programmes were Sembang Santai with Sarawak leaders, free VR screenings, traditional games and pickleball, a Mobile Legends (MLBB) e-sports competition, colouring contest, Satok Youth Got Talent, and Rahmah sales booths by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.
Also present at the event were Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Dato Hilmy Othman; MYSED deputy permanent secretary Dolhadi Mazuki; political secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister, Irwan Zulkarnain Muhammad Hasbie; Satok Community Sports Club (KSK Satok) deputy chairman Iskandar Sharkawi; Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Belia Bersatu Sarawak (SABERKAS) executive secretary Iszuan Haroni; and KBPBK chairman Asri Hazwan Harun. — DayakDaily
