Satok rep checks on flood evacuees at Sg Maong evacuation centre

KUCHING, Feb 22: Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utilities (Sarawak Energy Berhad and PETROS) Datuk Ibrahim Baki visited the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at Masjid Darul Istiqlaal in Kampung Sungai Maong on Saturday (Feb 21) to check on residents affected by flooding.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the Satok assemblyman handed over contributions to representatives of 18 families, providing immediate assistance to those displaced by the floods that hit the area on Friday night.

The PPS at Masjid Darul Istiqlal which has now been closed, housed 68 residents from the affected families, ensuring they have access to basic needs such as food, shelter and safety measures while at the centre.

Also present during the visit were the centre management team and representatives from relevant agencies, who briefed Ibrahim on the current situation and welfare of the evacuees.

He reminded residents to remain alert and follow authorities’ instructions to minimise risks during the flood period. — DayakDaily
