Sarikei’s SJKC Kwang Chien and Baram’s SK Batu Bungan win big at prestigious Hong Kong drone contest

KUCHING, Jan 27:  SJKC Kwang Chien of Sarikei and SK Batu Bungan of Baram have made Sarawak proud by winning the championship of Drone AR Shooting & Obstacle Racing category and the Most Promising Talent Award respectively in the 2026 Hula for Learning International Drone Competition held at the prestigious Cyberport Hong Kong. 

Facing a competitive field of 120 groups in the Primary category, the Sarawakian teams demonstrated exceptional precision and technical mastery.

The results are as follows:

Drone AR Shooting & Obstacle Racing category

Champion: SJKC Kwang Chien (Sarikei)

Fifth Place: SK Batu Bungan (Baram)

Drone Cooperative Flight Challenge category

Second Place: SJKC Kwang Chien (Sarikei)

Fifth Place: SK Batu Bungan (Baram)

Most Promising Talent Award (Out of 200 groups)

Winner: SK Batu Bungan (Mulu)

SJKC Kwang Chien and SK Batu Bungan were among the five schools representing Malaysia.  The Sarawak contingent also included strong performances from SMK Jalan Arang (Kuching), SJKC Chung Hua No. 2 (Kuching), and Woodland International School (Sibu).

Sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), the two schools had delivered a marvellous performance, securing multiple podium finishes against 200 elite teams from Mainland China, South Korea, Thailand, and Hong Kong. 

These results directly reflect edthe Sarawak Government’s strategic investment in STEM education.

By prioritizing digital literacy and providing high-end technology to schools, from urban Kuching to rural Baram, Sarawak has successfully bridged the talent gap and demonstrated the power of inclusive teaching and learning.
