SIBU, May 26: The Sarawak Rivers Board, (SRB) Sarikei has ordered all passenger boat owners to stop plying the Sarikei – Tanjung Manis route immediately after a woman in Tanjung Manis tested positive for Covid-19.

Currently only speedboats are operating the Sarikei-Tanjung Manis route.

The 20-year-old woman is a student of a college in Kuching who had earlier on May 12 been sent back to her home in Tanjung Manis and placed under 14-day
quarantine which was supposed to end on May 25. However, a result of two swab tests done showed she is positive for the disease.

She is now being treated in Sibu Hospital. Authorities are also busy now tracing people who might have come into contact with her.

Tanjung Manis is now under yellow zone from green as a result of the woman who is a Covid-19 positive patient.

SRB Sarikei has issued notice to all operators and owners of passenger boats today to halt operation.

Assistant controller of SRB, Ding Tiew Wong when contacted on the matter said the board is sticking to its notice issued on May 12 that passengers boats are only allowed to operate from Green zone to Green Zone.

“On May 12, we have issued Riverine Notice to all boat operators informing them on State’s decision that passenger boats only are allowed to operate from Green Zone to Green Zone. So far no changes to the decision been made earlier,” he added.—DayakDaily
