KUCHING, July 9: Sarawak’s wushu team will be in a training camp in Fujian Province, China as their final preparation for the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma) next month.

According to TVS, its chief coach Yoong Thong Foong said the squad will train for two months—July and August.

The former national coach said that his team promises a resurgence in this year’s Sukma by aiming for at least four gold medals, thus healing the ‘wound’ for not winning any gold two years ago.

“In 2022 Sukma, we failed to achieve any gold medals. But in these two years, my athletes have regained confidence by training in China for a long period.

“Three athletes will train two months there while the other athletes will train for one month only.

“Fujian was our choice because it has the best wushu training centre in China and the province has produced several world champions. Therefore, we hope there will be an improvement for all the athletes sent to train there,” he said when met by TVS at Sarawak Wushu Training Centre at Sentosa Sports Centre here today. — DayakDaily
