KUCHING, Aug 5: Students from Sarawak’s own Tyng Dance Academy brought home 10 gold medals and 44 awards at the 4th World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) Malaysia Open DanceSport Championship 2025, making it one of Sarawak’s strongest showings at a national dancesport event in recent years.
According to a statement, the event, which was held at Shah Alam from July 25–27, featured top athletes from across Asia, where Sarawak—represented by TDA—stood tall.
“We train with discipline, we move with purpose, and we build everything through our own system.
“Our students carry the Sarawak name with pride, and everything we do is to make this land shine,” said Chan Tyng Tyng, principal of Tyng Dance Academy.
Among the top performers was Claudin Tay Jiayen, who earned five gold medals across university and adult solo Latin categories—the most among the entire delegation.
Jovanna Goh Yi Xian, only eight years old, impressed with three gold medals, while Ariella Tang Chen Xin added a gold and a silver to the State’s tally.
Jayda Chang Xu Ern added to the medal tally with a gold in Samba, alongside multiple silver and bronze finishes in the Junior 2 category.
She also secured a top-three national ranking under MYDF and placed eighth in the WDSF world rankings—a proud moment not only for her family but for Sarawak’s growing presence in international dancesport.
Trisha Yap Tai Qii brought home consistent multi-category podium finishes, placing in all five Youth Latin solo events and earning both national and international recognition.
Also making their marks were Amanda Goh Suk Min and Bong Ker Chien, who reached top finalist positions in their divisions.

The team’s performance caught the attention of Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, who praised the athletes for their focus, discipline, and contribution to the State.
“These are the kind of youth Sarawak needs—talented, hardworking, and proud to represent their roots,” he said. — DayakDaily
