KUCHING, July 28: The multiracial and multi-religious culture of the people in Sarawak can be an example to the people in Peninsular Malaysia, says Islamiah Da’wah Foundation Malaysia (YADIM) chairman Datuk Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Hasanuddin likened the harmonious cooperation shown by the people in Sarawak to the spreading of ‘da’wah’ (Islamic preaching).
“Preaching does not necessarily invite people to change their religion, but it invites people to live in a state of harmony, love and respect,” he said when paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
Hasanuddin further said the courtesy call aimed to study the activities that will be implemented in the State, taking into consideration the local issues and guidance from the Premier.
“Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself has appointed Harakah Islamiah (Hikmah) executive officer Alwi Morshidi as a member of YADIM’s Board of Trustees to help understand the situation in Sarawak,” he added.
Also present was YADIM chief executive officer Zamri Zainal Abidin. — DayakDaily
