KUCHING, Aug 20: The 2025 Malaysia Day celebration at the Sarawak level, set to be held in Bintulu, will highlight the division’s rapid development as a new industrial cluster, showcasing the Sarawak’s achievements and progress since joining Malaysia under the theme “Sarawak Maju Makmur Dalam Malaysia” (Prosperous and Progressive Sarawak in Malaysia).
Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, who is also the minister responsible for the Malaysia Day 2025 celebration in Sarawak, said the event will kick off on Sept 14 with a thanksgiving ceremony for other religions, organised by the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), followed by a thanksgiving ceremony at Assyakirin Mosque on Sept 15.
On Sept 16, the celebration continues with a Malaysia Day Run in the morning, culminating in the main event at the old Bintulu Airport in the evening, which is expected to draw around 10,000 attendees.
“This celebration will provide a platform to showcase Sarawak’s overall development—past, present, and future.
“Special focus will be given to Bintulu as a new industrial cluster, which was also highlighted at the World Economic Forum. We are eagerly anticipating Malaysia Day 2025 in Sarawak, as it will demonstrate the division’s and the State’s key achievements,” he said in a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report.
Dr Rundi highlighted this during a press conference after paying a courtesy visit to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Satria Pertiwi Complex today.
He added that the celebration will also emphasise housing developments and industrial zones such as Samalaju, including new areas like Jepak Jaya, which have been planned to reduce congestion in Bintulu town.
Dr Rundi confirmed that the programme schedule has been approved by the Premier, and noted that Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar will attend as guest-of-honour alongside the Premier and other Sarawak leaders.
“We are finalising all programmes and have prepared a video showcasing Sarawak’s development, especially in Bintulu and other towns across the State. This presentation aims to demonstrate how Sarawak has benefited since joining Malaysia, which is reflected in this year’s theme, ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur Dalam Malaysia’,” he added.
Also present at the press conference were Bintulu Division Resident Datu Nyurak Keti and Sarawak Protocol, Ceremonial, and Event Management Unit director Datu Hamdan Sharbini. — DayakDaily
