KUCHING, July 30: Sarawak has achieved an 81.5 per cent score in the National Harmonious Industry Index (IHI) for 2024, reflecting a strong and positive level of employer-employee relations across the State.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, said Sarawak’s performance marks a steady improvement from the 79.3 per cent recorded in 2022.

“Malaysia’s national average for IHI is 83 per cent. While Sarawak is not far behind, we still have room for improvement to match or exceed that benchmark,” he said during the launch of the Sarawak Industrial Harmony Programme 2025, held at a leading hotel here today.

He added that the rising index score is a testament to Sarawak’s increasingly harmonious industrial and labour landscape.

Gerawat encouraged more companies in Sarawak to participate in the IHI Self-Assessment (IHI SA) through the free Industrial Relations Information System (IRIS) provided by the Department of Industrial Relations Malaysia (JPPM).

Companies that complete the assessment and meet the required standards will be awarded the Harmonious Company Rating Certificate (SPSH), helping to position themselves as attractive employers to investors, job seekers, and within the broader industrial landscape in both Sarawak and Malaysia.

Speaking to reporters later, Gerawat expressed confidence that Sarawak’s business community is moving in the right direction.

“I am hopeful and confident that employers and companies in Sarawak will continue to take positive steps to improve their performance and contribute to a more harmonious workforce,” he said. — DayakDaily
