KUCHING, July 7: Sarawak being accorded high-income status by the World Bank is an indicator that the State’s economy is developing well, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He explained that the Sarawak government is already consolidating income from economic spillover to the State’s coffers, which will in turn be distributed through development plans under the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“This will provide an ecosystem where the community will receive benefits from several sectors that we develop, such as tourism, agriculture and manufacturing industries.
“The important thing is connectivity infrastructure, including electric and water supply, which is now being actively implemented,” he told reporters when met after attending to the launching ceremony of Masjid Al-Malik in Kota Samarahan, today.
He pointed out that when the infrastructure is ready, the people will be able to utilise their talent and skills to raise their income according to their ability.
“That’s why we emphasise three things, number one is talent development, the second is basic infrastructure and the third, is technology,” he said.
On July 6, Sarawak attained high-income status according to the new World Bank country classification by income level for 2022-2023, with a gross national income (GNI) per capita exceeding US$13,205. — DayakDaily
