KUCHING, Dec 12: Sarawakian hammer throw queen Grace Wong Xiu Mei etches her name into regional sporting history after delivering a commanding performance to secure the gold medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Suphachalasai Stadium, Bangkok today.
During the competition, Grace dominated the women’s hammer throw event with a remarkable distance of 65.41 metres, a throw that not only earned Malaysia the top podium spot but also shattered three major records: the SEA Games record, the national record, and her own personal best (PB).
According to the post by Malaysia Athletics, Grace’s series included further improvements on her previous Malaysian record of 63.53m at the Tuanku Syed Putra Stadium earlier in August this year, surpassing it five times out of six throws, with her furthest throw earning her the gold.
Her outstanding performance placed her well ahead of the competition, outperforming six other finalists and reaffirming her status as SEA’s undisputed hammer throw champion.
Host nation Thailand completed the podium, with Mingkamon Koomphon taking silver with 60.74m, while Sawitree Kaewasuksri secured bronze with a best throw of 56.27m.
According to World Athletics most recent statistics, Grace currently ranks at 161 in the global woman’s hammer throw and top eight in the Asian Championships. — DayakDaily
